Spring Break update … where is everybody?

So, the question all over the island today is, “Where is everybody?”. Don’t get the wrong idea — South Padre Island is definitely not deserted. I saw more than 100 scantily-clad young folks on the beach behind the Radisson resort earlier today (check out the pics here). Still, the local retailers and SPI regulars are saying that they expected to see a lot more Spring Breakers by today.

Word is that there will be an influx of Spring Breakers coming in from all over the nation on Thursday. According to my source, most of the major hotels on the island say they have a lot of rooms booked for Thursday.

There’s tons of stuff to do on the island this week. Check our constantly updated events calendar here and keep an eye out for more Spring Break content coming soon. Speaking of events. we’ll be at the Chamillionaire concert tonight. If all goes well, we’ll have some photos of the show tomorrow.

TheV247.com staff has been busy hitting up a number of RGV clubs and bars the last few weeks to hand out free stuff and to promote our Hottest Bar Staffer Contest. So far, we’ve been to Brownsville’s the Loft, Shenanigan’s, South Padre Island’s Coral Reef, The Radisson, Louie’s Backyard and Club Pelican West. Where should we go next? Drop a comment and let us know. Make sure to check out photos from all the clubs mentioned above right here.

SPI Spring Break Bands 2008

January 9th, 2008, 11:47 am by Mike

rooney.jpg2008 is here and Spring Break is fast approaching. Louie’s Backyard has announced a few of the big acts music fans can look forward to catching on South Padre Island this Spring Break.

According to WhosYourPadre.com, Paul Wall, Cartel, Rooney, The Crash Moderns, All Time Low and Forever the Sickest Kids will hit Louie’s in March. Not a bad start, but it’s pretty heavy on the indie/teenemo side. I hope we’ll see some more decent hip-hop acts hit local stages come March.

Check out the list here for more info on the bands and check out Rooney’s video for “When did Your Heart Go Missing?’ below.

Spring Break Slam Rail Jam — It’s free!

March 15th, 2007, 3:33 pm by Mike

Hinder’s too sexy for their pantsI’ve been told that tons of professional wake-boarders will be slamming, railing
and/or jamming Friday and Saturday from 2pm-4pm at the Spring Break Slam Rail Jam on South Padre Island. The free event will take place at the beach at the Bahia Mar Resort.

We’ll be there taking photos, shooting video and talking to the boarders and the bands slated to perform, including Hinder. The event is part of the Texas Wakeboard Tour sponsored by the Coastal Current Weekly, KFRQ-FM Radio and a slew of corporations (but hey, it’s free!).

Click here for more info on the event and check our site after for exclusive pics and content. Remember to come by and say “hi.” We’ll be the pasty ones wearing smirks and pocket protectors.
